Jeju Olle Trail Route 1-1@100km, Part 1 of 3

#Route1-1 #UdoIsland #FirstRoute

#TheFerry

The very first trek we started was Udo island, route 1-1.  We made our way to Seongsanpo Hang Port. That was where we pickup the brochure above and boarded a ferry to Udo island. Attached the pictures of the entrance to the ferry terminal and ferry timing at the point of writing.

Ferry schedule was found at the counter. It did not matter which port you go to. You can find the start and end stamps at either of the ports. You just need to complete one round and return to the start point no matter where you started from. Just need to ask for the next ferry tickets and go for it. You will need to fill up a form before buying the ticket. The counter personnel will advise you on the cost.

It was a 15 mins ride and was free seating. Factor time for embarking and disembarking as they involved both vehicles and people.
Route 1-1 was very beautiful. We started from Haumokdong port and walked clockwise round the island.

#TheSkyline #BeautifulSea

This urbanised route was mostly flat, with beautiful seaviews,  Haenyeo in action and lots of cafes along the way.

The skyline was very beautiful, so was the sea. The picture perfect photos were easily captured just with a normal phone. I attached just a few here. Go view and experience yourself.

As we treked, we saw Haenyeo in action everywhere. We observed them at a distance and tried our best to respect their space. We did pictured them but from far and never with the faces. Always amazed how they can handle such a heavy load against the waves/open sea.

Really tempted to get on one of these vehicles if we were not on a trekking mission. They were so cute and everywhere on the island.

#Cafes

For the morning before lunch, we trekked passed many cafes but were too full to try them. Sharing just 2 here, they looked so so good.

#LocalFood

We had lunch at one of the local Korean eating place, mid point into the route.

The restaurant, a stone throw away from the mid point stamp is the building in the background of this picture.

This is the entrance of the restaurant. But we loved the outdoor seats and chose to sit outside.

We saw only locals and menu was in Korean only too. Besides using google translate and tried to figure out what best to eat, we were fortunate to run into a very kind fellow trekker ( local Korean) that helped us to order and even quietly paid for our meals!

We had simple rice set ( many side dishes of difference vegetables,  rice and seaweed soup) and seafood ramen. Simply loved our meal! You can of course ordered more meat to go with it if you wished.

Note: we love Korean side dishes and are light on meat on our diet, especially for lunch. Hence will almost always enjoy Korean local meals.
If you are not a fan of Korean side dishes or are meat eater, please go to a more conventional tourist dinning place, typically those with English menu and pictures. Or order more meat dishes.

#Walk&Eat #IceCream #Sherbet

After meal, carried on with our trek clockwise. Since we had a light lunch and the weather was warm ( autumn can be warm with no shade during mid day), we picked one of the cafe along the way to have yummy ice cream and coffee.

They were many by the coast, we just picked any one that appealed to us. We ordered Udo peanuts ice cream, tangerine sherbet and Udo peanut Latte, signature of Udo island and Jeju. They were so good.

#BeautifulViews #MoreCafe

After a very satisfying cafe break, trekked on. We just never gotten sick of Jeju seaview. We even managed to see Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) from afar.

Finally as we made our way back to the port for the ferry, we went to the last cafe with a beautiful seaview and yummy bread.

It is quite a high end cafe in a beautiful building and you certainly will not miss it.

We started this route at about 7.30am from our accommodation, took the 8.30am ferry to Udo island. Took the return ferry at 5pm and reached back our accommodation about 6pm.

#RouteInfo

Attached the 1-1 route pin, start and end point (CW) on Kakao map that we used. We found them essential for managing the trek, hence attached here. Use at own risk. Please do your own study before the trek.

Time to recharge. We had very good spicy flatfish meal (Galchi/beltfish) near our resort.

Both the stew and pan fried version tasted so so good. I will trade this any time over abalone.

We ended the day feeling satisfied and accomplished.
