Jeju Olle Trail Route 1 & 2@100km, Part 1 of 3
#Route2 #Route1 #Honiniji #GoseongMarket #DaesusanbongPeak
As mentioned in the introduction, we experienced some hiccups with our flight a week before our trip and had to reshuffle our plan a fair bit. End result was, we combined and rescheduled route 1 and 2 to day 4 of the trek/ day 5 of arrival.
In return, we were rewarded with a visit to the Goseong 5-day Market which only opens on the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 29th of every month (noticed they are 5 days apart, hence the name). Do check their schedule again before you plan.
Note: One route a day is certainly more enjoyable and the way to go.
#Honiniji #WeddingPond #ForestBath
Along the way as we trekked toward the wedding pond from the route finished point counter clockwise, we chanced upon interesting houses. One in full purple.
Instagram worthy sign board with 2 hearts at a traditional house near the wedding pond. Nice spot for photos.
Trekked on upslope and into the woods, where vast nature greeted us. Never been to any renowned forest bath before but I guessed this is how it feels like, totally at peace with nature. An experience I will not forgot for a long time.
#DaesusanbongPeak #BeautifulView
The view at the top of Daesusanbong peak was simply beautiful. I am sure you recognise that famous peak in the distance and our Ganse sign.
#Plantations #Radish #Broccoli
Flat ground and plantations greeted us as we were nearer back to civilisation. Radish and broccoli were common sight as we trekked towards the village.
#Goseong5DayMarket #TraditionalSnacks #Persimmons #Hotteok
Before long, we were near the Goseong 5-day market. We need to detour a little bit but the place was well worth the visit.
Not a big market by Jeju standard but was unique to us. There were really lots of dried goods, like different types of Korean seaweed. We have a long day ahead and afraid to crush the seaweed, else will definitely buy some home. But was certainly a great experience.
Tasted the best hotteok in my life! Korean sweet pancake is my favourite. This made-on-the-spot coated with honey hotteok was warm, chewy and spot on. It is really by far the best I have tasted in Korea
The coney dog, I must said was average. But give it a try, you may like it.
On the day of visit, there was only one stall right in the middle of the market. You will not miss the queue. We queued and watched the lady boss whipped up the snacks right in front of us. Love the experience!
We bought the best tasting Korean persimmons from the market too. Despite adding on to our load for the onwards trek, we just could not resist them. 8 for 10,000 won on that day. They were so good. But do remember, fruits are seasonal, what you will see, greatly depends on the season. Picture was taken many days after, before we left for home, still good. We ate 4 and brought 4 home to share with those back home.
#ReallyScenic #PicnicByTheLake
After all the great snacks, we trekked on. The next part of the route was so scenic, we so wish we have allocated more time for it. Nevertheless, we still managed to do a little picnic with coffee-in-hand by the lake. It was so cool.
#GwangchigiBeach #HorseRide #Yacht
Before long, we reached the Gwangchigi beach area, end of route 2. Saw a yacht on display by the beach. We could not resist but to take a photo with it.
Lucky to have a glimpse of two handsome horses. The owner even allowed me to pet one of it. It happened just right beside the route 2 finish point Ganse sign. Real bonus for the day.
We have 2 routes to complete today. No time to waste, trekked on. Continue route 1 still, in counterclockwise order.
#Route1 #CCW #CoastalView #SquidsDrying
A whole stretch of coastal area, more cafes greeted us. But we just cannot afford to stop and chill. Today is a total of 30km journey. A bit regret to pack it a little too tight.
After this long stretch of coastal, the route turned inland. We trekked past a small community with lots of interesting small cafes.
As we journeyed on, grassland and woods greeted us as we trekked towards Al Qreum.
By the time we reached the peak, it was a bit dark to take decent photos. Price to pay for being too ambitious for the day.
We had to rush to descend and made our way towards Malmi Oreum entrance, end/start of route 1 as the sky turned darker pretty fast.
#RouteInfo
Attached the pin for route 1&2 courses, the start and end point on Kakao map that we used. We found them essential for managing the trek, hence attached here. Use at own risk. Please do your own study before the trek.

Our finishing point was at Siheung-ri bustop, about 150m from the Jeju Olle information center along route 1. We could not mark it on the map but it should be easy to find.
#WrappedUp #TooLong
Today is indeed a super long day. Not only did we completed 2 routes (30.7km), we switched hotel too. We made it but were really tired. Not something we would recommend. Please go slow and you will enjoy better.
