Jeju Olle Trail Route 5 & 6@100km, Part 1 of 3

 #Route5 #Route6 #Cliff #TangerinePlantations

Today marked the last day of our trek to complete the 100km. Combining route 5 and 6 was planned all along. From document and maps, route 5 is marked as medium and 6 as easy, with total distance of 24.4km. We thought is a good choice to combined the two. Again, we are so wrong. They are once again better to be done on separate day.

We took a bus from our accommodation in Seowipo to the start of route 5 and trekked clockwise. The bus journey was about 45mins. Route 5 started as a rather flat coastal route. With lots of sea birds and tangerines plantations.

But the easy path soon turned rocky and was best assisted with trekking poles.  The paths by the cliff were not so easy after all. Good trekking shoe with ankle support and good grip is essential to enjoy the trek.

#Wimi-ri #Momguk #PorkNoodle #Gulfweed

We intended to have brunch today nearing the mid point of route 5 just before the Wimi-ri. As usual, found a local eating place. Small, by the coast and operated by only one lady boss. Side dishes were free flow from a buffer table as long as no wastage.

We tried out two common dishes in Jeju. Meat noodle, pork slices with noodle in broth as well as Momguk, a local Jeju dish that boils the broth made by simmering pork and pork innards together with gulfweed. Personally love the Momguk.

The mid point was easily spotted near Wimi-ri. The art work on the wall of the cafe was rather distinctive and hard to miss.

There were many houses with unique architecture along the way too.

With the all familiar Ganse in sight, we have reached the end of route 5 and start of route 6.

#Soesokkak #Estuary #VolcanicRocks #Cafes

As we trekked on, we came across Soesokkak. a scenic estuary. The view here was really beautiful. Despite short of time, we still spent some time here admiring the views. There were many couples kayaking leisurely while admiring the cliff of volcanic rocks.

After a stretch of beautiful coastal area, we chanced on some cafes. Picked one and chill. As usual, another Instagram worthy cafe, beautiful view, decoration and yummy drinks/food.

The donut latte was average though it really looked like a donut. The salted bread however was delicious.

#SoJeongBangWaterFall #CastleOfShell #LeeJungSeopStreet

After this break, we trekked on. We have been to the Sojeongbang waterfall as a tourist previously hence not spending too much time there. The rocky path along the way was quite pretty though.

The castle of shell was so beautiful from outside. Unfortunately, we reached there after the opening hours, past 6pm. Another reason not to combine two routes on the same day.

As it was getting late, we have to fasten our pace to try to finish the route before sun set. Lee Jung Seop Street, just before end of route 6 was very brightly lit and was so beautiful. We kind of glad we trekked past it at night fall.

We ended the route at Jeju Olle Tourist center @ Seowipo. Way passed the operating hour. We will be back for the certificate the following morning. Another reason for staying within walking distance from this tourist center.

Attached the pin for route 5&6 courses, the start and end point on Kakao map that we used. We found them essential for managing the trek, hence attached here. Use at own risk. Please do your own study before the trek.

We had been craving for spicy octopus since start of trek, hence decided to go hunt for one. Saw Arang Joeul Food Street nearby Jeju Olle Tourist center and decided to explore it.

Walked along the food street and found a small eating place that served spicy octopus.

We could not pin this eating place on Kakao map. But fret not, just walk along the food street, lots of food along the street. You definitely can find something.

We intentionally not ordering too much and left some room to have some snacks at Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market. Many street food in this huge market. You will be spoiled for choice.

I just love their Korean rice cakes. Always back here when in Jeju.

We have tried their red beans, chopped peanuts, peanuts powder coating as well as mugwort in fused rice cake till date. They all tasted so good. Chewy, soft and just the right amount of sweetness with typically red beans filling. But this round, we found the plain, smaller in size rice cake in one of the stall at the corner the next morning when we went to collect our certificates.

If you like chewy rice cakes, you will certainly love them. They were so good. Just walk around and look out for the colorful balls. You will not miss it. Do note they sold out very fast. Go before mid day if you want to try them. That explained why we missed this stall last few trips, we visited the market in the evening in all our previous visit.

Great trek, delicious food and dessert. A real great wrapped up to our first 100km trek. Totally satisfied.
