Travel Blog Nov 2024: Jeju Olle Trail , 100Km Wrapped up. Part 1 of 3

 #WrappedUp #BestOfBothWorlds

Jeju Olle Trail offers great trekking experience for trekkers from novices to experts. It consists of many urbanised trails chained together. Retaining the old world charm and natural beauty of the places through careful design of the trails. Loved our treks around the world and I must say Jeju Olle Trail is uniquely Jeju.

#ForBeginners

The trails allow you to go slow, take a break or even abort if needed to.  Relatively easy terrains, quite flat and many food choices along the trails and ready public transport too. Each trail length is typically within 20km and average around 15km. Manageable distance for most. If you missed anything, it is easy to buy there and then too.

With good choice of accommodations, food and public transport along all trails, it is therefore possible to either choose to stay in a few locations and go light with just a day pack or go like classic back packers, trek , stop and stay as you move along.

Stay within Spring or Autumn Season ( classic 7 to 22 degree C), clothings will be light and easy too. Please note that for a path without shade, 22 degree C can feel rather warm. Bring along your sun block and hat.

By the coast and with strong direct wind or up the shaded hilly area with strong wind, 7 degree C can feel quite chilly. Please layer appropriately.

#ForExperts

These are not trails that required climbing rope or even trekking poles. Not extremely challenging too. But they are very enjoyable trails with good mixed of beautiful sceneries, cultures, wild lives, coastal and food.

Soak in the unique culture and atmosphere of Jeju. Go slow and enjoy.

#GoingAround #PublicTransport #BusAroundJeju

We travelled by Kakao Taxi from airport to our accommodation and on days that we needed to transfer our luggages. On all other occasions, we moved around by buses.

For someone that does not read or write Korean, how do we go about taking public buses in Jeju? The answer, Kakao map and any translator app. Some uses Naver map. Use what you are comfortable with.

For illustration, we will show an example of we navigating from where we are to emart in Seowipo.

Launch your Kakao map. The application will pickup your current location. Key in your destination in Korean characters just like how you use google map.

Bus numbers with route and timing will be displayed. Choose the one that has least walking distance which is bus 633 as shown. You can check the arrival time from the application or on the display panel at each of the bus stop.

Once onboard the bus, the on bus display panel will show each stop in both Korean and English. To make it more readable, feed this image to a translate and bingo, it is now readable.

Translation was about 90% accurate. A bit of guessing and figuring out will get you there eventually.

#OurRevisedItinerary #JustASuggestion

What will we do differently if given the chance? We would adjust the itinerary to as follows. Would have covered more distance during this trip too. Typical trekking planning is to trek 6 days and rest a day. However, Jeju Olle Trail itself is a fun trail that you literally play, rest and eat along the way. We will just skip the rest day and continue till we complete our targeted for that trip.
